It was the neutral safety switch, now how do I adjust a new one? 700 1987

I went to the resteraunt the next morning and put the car in neutral and it started. I also tried jumping the pink wire to the blue and it also started then too. So, with this, I believe I need to repalce the neutral safty switch. How do I know it is bad verses just out of adjustment? What goes wrong with them? any tips for installing the repalcement? Thanks, Nick
