A/C compressor won't come on

Hello all.....starting a new post on this as I have new info, Have verified that there is adequate charge -- gauge from Autozone showing in the orange range, meaning too much charge (green means too little, blue is good, orange means a bit too much, and red is way too much). Still, the compressor won't come on for more than a few seconds. If I interrupt the power to it and then connect it again, it will come on for a few seconds and then shut off. It will do this every time I cut the power (have done it 20+ times in succession) -- same result every time. Any idea what's wrong? Worked fine last year.
