M40 and M41 Parts Compatibilty 444-544

Hey folks!
So after a long lay-off, I've finally gotten my finances in a state where I can play with the 544 again, starting with fixing the overdrive tranny I put in it without checking it out first.
I'm running an M41 with a J-Type overdrive, and it runs fine, no weird noises or anything. The one problem I've got is that it won't stay in first gear on its own. If I hold the shift lever, no problem, but if it's idling in first with the clutch engaged, the lever eventually flops down. It only does it in first, so I'm thinking it's just a shot synchro.
Now, to my question....I've got the old M40 tranny that I cleaned up and replaced all the seals on about 7 years ago, which has been sitting under a work bench since I upgraded. Obviously I'm going to need to buy all new seals for the M41, but will the synchros and other good guts from the M40 slot in to the M41, or am I going to have to get new bits and pieces? I know the output shaft is going to be different, but what about the rest of it? I'd like to make one good gearbox out of the two....
