Coolant leak (and other minor issues) 200 1989

Hi there,

I'm in the middle of a cross-country road trip in my 1989 240DL wagon, and appear to be leaking coolant. I've tightened hoses and tried adding Stop Leak, but every two hours of driving, I'm empty again. So, questions:

1) If I ignore it, and just keep refilling (with more water than actual Volvo coolant), will I survive 8 more weeks (and 8,000 more miles) on the the road?

2) Is the fix for this likely to be Volvo-specific? That is, will I need specific Volvo parts to get this fixed, or can any mechanic take care of it?

Clearly, I'm totally inexperienced at taking care of cars (only bought this one 6 weeks ago), but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers,

—Matt
