SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT VOLVO SHOPS! (The good ones, at least!)

This afternoon, the owner of the "V-Shop", in Jackson, MS, just saved me another couple of hundred dollars in unnecessary repairs.

My check engine light came on a few days ago, along with a terrible loping idle and cold start problems. The OBD code and some DIY tests led me to believe that my Mass Air Flow sensor was dead and needed replacing. I was prepared to spend $200-$300 on repairs, but the V-Shop guys said not to jump the gun with the Check Engine codes. They asked me a series of questions and made sure I had checked other things first. They allowed me to pull my car into an empty bay and work on it, going back and forth as I checked items one by one again. As a last step, the owner handed me a bottle of WD-40 and sent me back under the hood to lubricate the Idle Air Control motor. Two Check Engine codes ("1-2-1" and "2-2-3") were corrected with a minimum of time and money.

Great Volvo mechanics are hard to find. Support them as much as possible!

Southern Fried Volvo, 1991 240, 215k mi (with a really clean Throttle Body, Idle Air Control motor, and a nice smooth idle!)
