If you are pretty sure the sound is coming from a wheel, check for loose lug nuts or bad bearings. To check bearings, raise the car and use a lever between the tire and the ground to wiggle the wheel. You'll know if the bearings are loose. If the bearings are OK, rotate the wheel and tire to see if you can duplicate the noise while the car is on the jack stands.

If lug nuts, just a quick tighten with the lug wrench and you're golden. If bearings, I wouldn't go far before replacing them.

Hub caps and trim rings can sometimes click or maybe there is a rock hung between the backing plate and the disk.

A failing U-joint will sometimes make itself known early-on as a clicking noise. Once they begin to make noise, they are toast.
