Question about wheel upgrades and space saver spares 900 1993

This could be a stupid question but I have to ask.

By the way, thanks for the inputs on the correct tire size for the set of Volvo Hydra 16" alloys I put on my 940 today. They look great, fill the wheel well, improve the road manners, and I could swear I ride a little higher. Seems more stable. I wound up buying some Bridgestone Potenza G009s. They feel great, but new tires always do.

My question is, before I get a 16" steel wheel or a 5th allow and put a new tire on it, can I use the 15" space saver spare and get away with it? I cringe at the sneers I may receive, but I have to ask.
