Best way to lubricate door hinges without making a mess? 700

What is the best way to lubricate door hinges without making a mess? I have just detailed my door jambs and hinges, that appeared to have never been done since the car was new 19 years ago, which makes a huge difference in the way it looks when you open the door to get in (especially with a light colored car) but now the dry hinges are squeaking like the Tin Woodman, calling for oil. My first thought was to grab the can of white lithium grease and quiet things down, but that stuff splatters all over the place, as does just about anything in an aerosol can. An old fashioned oil can comes to mind, but what to put in it? Motor oil? 3 in 1 oil?

If I remember correctly, 240 door hinges have some kind of an oil fitting on them. I suspect this was deleted on the 740 because nobody ever used them. I don't think I've ever seen the kind of nozzle that would be needed to lubricate them.
