Any ideas? 120-130

Still the same..but I have noticed that my voltage regulator is getting very hot. Could that have anything to do with things? I am useless at electrics. When I took my fuel pump out again I touched it between the back of the alternator and the block accidentally (no keys in ignition) and nearly blew myself up..sparks went flying everywhere..that can't be right, surely? Sorry if I sound like a right dimwit..I took the alternator apart and all looked o.k, but from the little I can understand, maybe one of the windings is shorting to the case or something?
I am going to have to give myself a break before I start to dislike the car..cheers all..
