The auto tranny on my '95 944T was acting kinda funny the other day. It seemed to be having troubles shifting from 1st to second or perhaps it was between 2nd and D. Usually it would up-shift at fairly low revs when accelerating normally (not too fast) but lately it won't up-shift util it hits about 3000 rpm or so between those two gears. Once you get it out of the low gears it's fine though. It shifts between D and OD quite well and seems to down shift ok when you slow down. It just seems have problems up-shifting between either 1 & 2 or 2 & D but not both.
I just checked and the tranny is topped right up with fluid so it's not low on fluid.
This is the first automatic tranny car I've ever owned so I don't know a whole lot about autos and how they tend to act when problems are starting to happen.
What could be going on with that ? Is it an early symptom of an automatic tranny that's about to pack it in ?
The car only has about 160,000 miles on it and is in real good shape. Looks like it's been well cared for all its life. I just got it in April. The tranny wasn't doing that when I got it.
Also, I get a bit of a rattle or vibration for a brief second just as I start off from a standstill. It seems to be coming from underneath the front armrest or thereabouts. No other problems/vibrations with the drive line seem to be evident. It just happens for a brief moment when I hit the gas and take off from a standstill.
Is this likely a U-joint going or could it possibly be tranny related as well ?
Thanks,
Roger
