86 240 DL wagon 200

hi,
i have an 86 240 DL wagon with about 250 000km. as we came out of winter the engine started to warm up past half way on the guage so i took it in and got a new rad cuz the old one was original and full of deposits. fan clutch was replaced at the same time and new thermostat as well. i figured this would cure things but after i drove it on the high way it still ran a bit warm but when i got into a traffic jam it warmed almost to the red. fortunately it cooled after i got rolling again before it boiled. since then i have tried a couple of new thermostats and still the same problem. i have read the threads about the compensator board and all that but i'm wondering if that could be the problem. rather than pissing around with all that i was wondering if there was a mechanical guage for this car after market that would fit in place of the original sender unit. i figure with the new rad and no symptoms of a blown gasket that maybe this sender and board system is bagged. i am trying to sell the damn thing as i just bought an 2002 XC 70. if i sell it as is, the new buyer will be back in my driveway a couple of hours later with a suitcase of attitude if i don't get this sorted out. obviously as i am trying to sell it, i don't want to spend to much sorting this out.. help!!!!!
