a/c pressure switch question 700

I recently switched my '84 760 T to a rotary style a/c compressor to replace the York. I noticed that the compressor now runs continuously whenever the a/c is on. It doesn't switch on and off like it should. While sitting at a stop light the other day, the line going from the compressor to the condensor exploded and caused all of the refridgerant to be lost. I don't know if this was related to the system having too much pressure or if the hose was just old. Does the small switch over on the drier control when the compressor cycles on and off?

Thanks in advance.
Dave
