weird turn signal indicators.green indicator light in the display panel is always on instead of always off. 120-130

replaced my flasher relay which had failed. Now the green indicator light in the display panel is always on instead of always off. It flashes when I put use a left or right turn at the stalk, or if I use the 4way flahsers, but otherwise it is always on. I have a '68 220 which I beleive had the 4x as stock. I remmeber having trouble wiring it up years ago, but it had been working until now. I check for wires around the switch shorting etc...nothing. So have they changed the layout of the 3 spade universal flasher at some point in the last 20? years? As always input appreciated. Patrick.
