What is this? 140-160

When removing the manifold from my 140, I noticed a spot beside the manifold and under the thermostat housing that appears to be some kind of patch placed directly into the side of the block. It measures roughly two inches across. I looked at the Classic Motorsports 142 and in this area there was some kind of chrome fitting that looked like it had a port or something. I haven't seen this referenced in any of my manuals. What is this area for? Some type of accessory port? Just curious. Thanks!
