Bad vibrations...transmission or front end? 200

Hi, all:

The car: 1989 240.

I am getting a hell of a bad vibration when I hit about 40-45 mph, which seems to increase as I accelerate and then back off when I hit speed and level off.

About a week ago, the transmission was balking, so I checked and found out the fluid had all leaked out. Further inspection showed the seal between the driveshaft and tranny was shot, which I am replacing this week.

Also of note: judging by tire wear, the car is seriously in need of a front-end alignment, which also is getting done this week.

So can anyone guess if either of these problems is the likely cause of all this vibrating?

thanks
mike the fiddler
