1992 Volvo 245 depressing the brake doesn't unlock the shift lever. 200 1992

Intermiitant right now, would like to fix it before it quits altogether. Is it the switch behind the brake pedal? or something else?
On a bright note, tuned up the beast with new cap, rotor, wires, and plugs, and an air filter, runs even better, and no more moisture running troubles!!!
Thanks.
