92 vs 97 flywheel 900

I'd really like to know: Is it required to change the flywheel (starter ring gear) when putting a 97 engine into a 92? Will a 97 work with 92 electronics? I've already done the swap and before hooking everything up, I need to know if I'm going to have to pull the motor out to change flywheels. Does someone have an authoritative answer?
