We have also had an small stream of oil coming out of the valve cover filler cap and running down the back of the engine. Cleaning the PCV flame trap and replacing the PCV helped somewhat.

I suspect that the piston rings are no longer providing a good enough seal to keep enough pressure in the combustion chamber. Excess pressure in the crankcase forces oil out of the upper part of the oil fill cap. A more serious but related issue to high crankcase pressure is oil droplets getting drawn into the lead carb.

The hard but proper way to fix this is likely an overbore with new pistons and rings.

In an attempt to try an easy way for now a catch can was added to the hose between the oil filler cap and lead carb:







The catch can was purchased on Ebay for about $30. I'll let you know in a week or so what effect, if any, this rats nest of additional hose has on the situation. My hope is that at least the oil will be intercepted before getting to the lead carb.
