Does extra sound-proofing really help a 93 240 all that much? 200

Upon removing the carpet from the 93 240 wagon, I expected to NOT find much of any sound-deadening material. I was surprised to find quite a lot of 1/2" thick cushioning on both the floorpan and firewall. My plan was to install some Dynamat, or similar, sound deadening sheeting in exactly those places. Now, I'm thinking that putting in the Dynamat may not improve quietness noticeably, and it may be a waste of time and expense. Anyone here added sound-proofing to a 1993 wagon? Did it improve noise levels? Where did you put it? What brand did you find effective? Thanks in advance for replies. Daryl
