Egged! 444-544

I have been working on the paint on my PV544 this Spring, making small repairs and buffing the dull spots.

I left the car in the driveway while we went to Las Vegas for a couple of days.

When we returned, I found that someone had thrown two eggs at the car. One missed completely, but the second one hit the top edge of the trunk lid and burst, throwing yolk and albumen across the trunk lid and roof. It also splattered across the whole left-hand side and roof of my wife's new Mitsubishi Lancer.

I suspect the the kid(s) who did this are the same ones that have been siphoning gas from tanks all over our neighborhood. Luckily, we haven't been hit by gas thieves as all our tanks have either locking caps or doors protecting the contents of the gas tanks.

Also, I'm hoping they realize that eggs destroy paint, and that they stop soon.

I filed a police report, with photos. The damage estimate from the body shop is in excess of $5,000 to repair the damage. The Mitsubishi damage is covered by insurance, but so far I haven't found a company that will write a policy on the old Volvo.

Over the past two years we've had a lot of trouble - too much for the nice neighborhood we live in.

First, someone cut the words "Fat F*cker" into the side of our fiberglass camp trailer, then they ripped up the tonneau cover ($900) on the pickup. Last summer the side gate into our back yard was kicked in repeatedly (until I secured it with some 2x4's screwed on the inside), then someone had fun throwing rocks at my new truck. Lots of small dents and a smashed windshield ($500). The paper boy was caught throwing rocks at cars in the next street (he has to earn money to pay for the vandalism he did to some houses, thus the job). He denies throwing rocks at our truck, but now his Dad has to drive along behind him when he's delivering papers.

Yesterday I installed an infrared camera that covers the driveway and street in front of the house. Last night I checked it out, and the images are clear and sharp, even in the dark.

The next time the little vandals hit will be their last!
