Speedometer signal converter 700 1987

A few months ago I got an '87 744T with a bad rear end, swapped in a new (used) one, but now my speed is wrong. I guess the replacement was from a later model with 48 pulses/sec on the speedo ring.

Question: Does anyone know of a simple way to split the speedo signal into a quarter of it's current signal? A little electronic aftermarket thing, maybe? I'd guess there's an easier way to repair this than opening the differential or the dash.

Thanks. I need to get this sorted out so I can sell the car in Massachusetts.
