Electrical - alternator and instrument panel 200 1989

Hello boarders,

I removed my instrument panel to fix a broken odometer.

While the panel was out - I took the car out for a drive and it stalled on me.

It felt like an alternator failure though I couldn't really tell because the dash couldn't blink at me (however the radio did turn on and off a number of times).

At home - I can jump it and it'll run for about a minute before failing.

Also - I reinstalled the instrument panel and it doesn't register anything when the car is turned (after jumping).

Ideas?
thanks for thinking on this one.
