Sluggish Performance 200 1993

Hello,

My concern is sluggish performance with the 93 sedan. Gas mileage is only about 25 mpg on trips and 22, 23 around town. There are no codes in the diag reader.

Obviously the car has never been particularly strong, but I have two other 93's to compare to and she's a bit of a dog. At 230K, last night I did a compression test and observed that cylinders 1-3 read about 100, 125, 140, 150 to 155 on the gauge thru the four revs of the motor. Cylinder 4 read 75, 100, 135, 150 on the first try and 100, 125, 140 and 150 on the second try. All tests were done dry with the fuel injectors electrical connection off. From what I've read here in the archives, those numbers are OK. However, there is some white spotting on the plugs, which progressively diminishes as you observe plug 4 then 3, 2 and 1. I don't think there is any usage of coolant as the expansion tank level hasn't moved.

The throttle body and Iac have been cleaned recently and the intake manifold gasket has been replaced. Is there any way to check the catalytic converter? cause I suppose this could be the prob.
I suppose it may also be time to replace the hose from the AMM to the throttle body, cause it's cheap and would rule out that hose. I've tried the propane test for air leaks and haven't found any.

Looking for suggestions as to where to head from here?

And thanks for all the posts about the heater valve on the 93 wagon. That will be my project for August.

Thanks a million

Marty Wolfson
