'Skreek-skreek' said the fuel pump 200

About a month ago I Started hearing this intermittent noise when driving the 242. "Skreek-skreek," is the only way I can describe it. Not real loud, but obviously loud enough to be noticed. Might hear it two or three times in a minute and then not for a few minutes. I narrowed it down to the main fuel pump. To confirm I ran the pump with the engine off and it was definitely the source of the noise. Normal sound of pump operation never bogged down. Just the occasional "skreek" thrown into the mix.
At some point it stopped making this noise. I was just fooling around with some other stuff on the car this AM and while I was at it I ran the pump again. It sounded completely normal.
This pump was replaced by the previous owner, or rather an independent import repair shop in Corvallis, OR. I'd guess it is a Bosch pump but I really haven't checked. It has seen maybe 10k miles of service, much too short a time to be going bad from normal wear. I am waiting for it to start happening again.

Has anyone here experienced such a noise from the main pump?
Is this pump on it's way out? If so, how long should I expect it to last?
