As we used to say in Minnesota....Uff Da. I will always be sure that the crank gear that I install has threaded holes in it....

I ended up cutting some notches in the teeth of the gear with a dremel, and used a three arm puller to get it out a bit, and then moved the arms to the edge of the gear and pulled it off. Will have to do some good cleaning of the area and put it back together tomorrow. Thanks for your replies.
