side impact collision 700

Another post with similar questons appeared last week, though the impact was from the rear.

One of the responses is from a Volvo owner who owns a body shop. Upon inspecting his own car after such a collision he found that many many areas were damaged that were not apparent to a thorough inspection not up on a rackl.

Floorboards rippled, welded seams ripped open, and the general structural integrity damaged beyond repair. He scrapped the car, after removing all useable parts including the driveline.

I suggest that you get the same inspection before making a decision. The Volvo structure is designed to alow impact energy to be absorbed in many places, not just those areas with immediate visible damage.

That may be the more expensive route, but it is no doubt the safest.

Pleased that your daughter is OK. We worried every day when our daughter was driving our 1984 240 to and from school. Just a 3 mile trip while she finished high school, then a 30 mile drive to college. Lot a lot of my hair then.

Good Luck,

Bob
