Trans wont go into park 900 1993

This problem has been gettin worse and worse. Now the trans will non shift into park.

The shift lever says P, but the car is still in reverse.

MY tranny mount has about 40k on it. The motor mounts (aftermarket) have 90k on them.

I was under the car and my shifted the lever to 'park', but the car was still in R. I grabbed the linkage underneath and was easily able to manually shift the transmission into park. The thing is, when I did this , the shifter in the cabin didnt move at all while the linkage traveled quite a bit.

Could the there be a loose connection somewhere between the shifter and the where the linkage come out of the floor?? There is a slot on the main linkage under the car, can I adjust that so it moves further toward pthe park position?

Should I replace the motor mounts and trans mount before attempting any of this?

Thanks in advance for all replies.
