Washing the front seatcovers in the 240 wagon was a "piece-o-cake". With all of the confidence gained from that adventure, I wandered fearlessly into the next phase of seatcover washing. Little did I know it would be somewhat of a minefield.

The rear backrest upholstery is bolted, screwed, and hogringed to the extreme. The seat cushion is similar plus stapled as well. The backrest upholstery, after a hour of intense disassembly from the framepan is soon to be washed. Before I toss it into the washer, I'd really like to hear from anyone else who has ventured into these barely charted waters. Is washing the rear seat upholstery an exercise in insanity?

Can the carpeted portion of the rear seat cushion be washed without fear of gross deformity? Are the staples that hold it to the plywood made of stainless steel?

Any advice?
