'92 240 or 2000 Mazda B2500 200

Hey all,

I'm trying to help a friend of mine decided between two vehicles that he is considering to purchase as an in-town "beater." One's a '92 240 sedan, automatic, with 143k miles; the other is an '00 Mazda B2500 2WD pickup, 5-speed, with 81k miles. Both are in good condition for their age. I really want my friend to get the 240 because 1) I'm a true Volvo man, and 2) The car will probably last him a few years with proper maintenance. However, a mutual acquaintance who's a mechanic says that late-model Mazda pickup trucks are excellent alternatives to old Volvos, are cheaper to purchase, and will last just as long. What do you guys think? Should my buddy go for the 240 or the Mazda?
