A while back I posted regarding upgrading? to a 940T or a 960. After some consideration I have decided to stay with my 740T and spend some bucks on it to prolong it's life.
Today I changed plugs and ran a compression test, pressures were 130 135 135 140
I was not able to find a value suggested for the B230FT but the Haynes manual suggests 9-11 Bar range for the 230 (For those of us who are metric? challenged that worked to to a range of 130 to 160. I'm assuming that the 230FT may have a bit lower compression range. It does burn a qt every 200 miles or so and has what seems to be a lot of blow by! Do I or do I not have a flame trap?
What I'm considering is getting a used 230Ft if I can find it and rebuild it. then swap engines. Present engine has about 190 K on it.
Any thoughts about this? alternate suggestions that don't involve interference engines? Thoughts about a later model 8 valve engine and ad on turbo.
This is a daily driver and I'm not wanting to make a race car out of it , but I'd like to make sure that when I pull out in traffic I'm not going to be in your way!
TIA
Woody
