Broken shifter linkage... how on earth to change it. 900

Found my problem with the trans not going into park... the plastic 'vertical' linkage that conects the shifter handle to the long metal link has a crack in it near the pivot. No matter how hard you try and jam it into park, the crack will give and the trans wont shift.

Now... how to change it... looks like I have to remove the entire shifter mechanism from inside the car in order to change it. Has anyone done this or have any tips?

Thanks in advance,

matt
