heater core insulation 120-130

"...Is there more I should do with the core before I put it back together?..."

Do you want to pressure test the heater core before putting it all back together? You can cut a bicycle inner tube in half, use hose clamps to attach the tube to the pipes and a hand pump to pressurize the inner tube (and heater core) to 8 or 10 psi. Submerse in a bucket of water and look for bubbles.
