my swede is stalling 700 1992

I remember a mention of a battery/alternator cable that runs under the engine and rubs the engine or crossmember. Once the insulation is broken, it can briefly short out and kill the car, but leave the electricals working. This might have been on the 240 and not the 740 series.

I would check the relay first because they're known to have problems over time with separating solder joints.
