Repair to 700 wagon after wreck--worth it? 700

Hi--My 1987 745Ti was broadsided almost a week ego. It was hit square on the passenger doors, at the pillar, and bucked the bar under the rear door quite severely. Body shop guy (who I trust-recommended by my volvo mechanic) says he can fix it for $3300(!) I understand that this will entail cutting out and refitting a new box beam member under the doors. I love my car--it's in GREAT shape, with lots of money invested to make it a solid car (new wiring harness, misc electrical, etc). I've had the car four years. It's got 170,000 miles on it. Body until last Tuesday was perfect.
It was always my intention to keep this car forever. Now what?
It will be totalled by the insurance Co, I'll take the settlement (hoping for $2500--$3000) and fix the car.
First of all, would you do it, if this was your baby?
Second, what will this repair do to the structural integrity of the car? Will it be as strong as it was originally, better, or permanently compromised?

Many thanks for your help

Tifosi
