Need AC advice/ does turning on AC raise RPM? 700 1991

I've got the AC working. I had the problem like so many others of the air diverting to the floor upon acceleration. I plugged up the yellow and blue hoses that go to the center motor.

I had the AC system reworked with a variable orifice valve and the system works well.

What I want to know is does turning on the AC supposed to raise the RPM? Because it does not on my car. Currently my idle is at 500, I know it's a little low. I plan to clean the throttle body this week. But I am not noticing an automatic RPM increase when I turn on the AC.

CAn anyone offer clarification on this?

Thanks, Josh
