Yes, I have just found out those "clamps" they include with the exhaust kit, do indeed suck. They have much beefier ones at auto parts stores.

I think the noise is now coming from the engine side of things. The head gasket and etc. needs to be done, and I think the noise might be coming from that part of the engine/exhaust.

Once I can afford this, I'll do it. Then, and only then will I know, I guess.
