The valves are closer together in a B18 head than in a B20. I tried fitting a 44mm intake valve, and it would be just touching the exhaust valve. No go, regardless of chamber enlargement issues.

The carbs have to fit the original manifold without adapters of any sort, by the rules. I did port out the carb end of the manifold.
