Regina 745< moving 02 Sensor to downpipe 700 1992

Cant this be done with no adverse effects?
I have a 1992 740 W/regina and a bad downpipe.
I ordered a new down pipe but it came with the O2 fitting at the end of it.
My regina car has the O2 sensor on the cat.
Can i put in this new down pipe, put the new o2 sensor on the end of it. and get a cat that does not have the o2 plug on it?
