Electrical weirdness 900 1995

I just replaced the faulty bulbs that are supposed to illuminate the shift position indicator and the seat heater buttons in the console. The bulbs were definately blown but the new bulbs didn't change anything. There seems to be no power going to them.

Why would that be ? Is this a common occurance with the 900s or is this something unique to my car ? Why would there be no power going to those bulbs and yet there's power going to the switch panel lights.

In another possibly related matter the instrument/dash light dimmer switch doesn't seem to have any effect. I can slide it up and down and it has no effect on the brightness of the dash lights. They're always full on.

Do those switches commonly fail ? Do they commonly fail with full power going through ?

Could these two problems be related in some way or are they independent of one another ? (I suspect the latter).

Any advice/tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Roger
