1996/ 960 timing belt not lining up. 900

The plastic cover where the timing marks for the sprockets are is deformed and is it has been rubbing against the timing belt, I made marks with a pen prior to removing the belt but now something is wrong. I have been trying several times moving crankshaft right on the mark, to the left of the mark and to the right of the mark. I have also tried to move camshaft sprockets 85mm from mark to mark and 80mm, one tooth closer, from mark to mark. Whatever I do the car will not start and I can hear air pushing back through the intake. I will appreciate all your help.
