Air Conditioning Compressor runs full time 200 1985

Someone had been monkeying around with the A/C system on my 1985 GL wagon. They have cut into the wires that go to the low pressure cycle switch, and fed the wiring 12 volts (taken from the hot side of the coil). The system has been changed over to the R-134A system several years ago. The system has good head pressure, and the system is charged to spec. I wonder if the previous owner did this to cure some other problem...I suspected that the thermostat switch might be the culprit, but you can rotate it fully counter-clockwise, and the engine idle will drop. What would you guys reccomend first (other than the obvious putting the siring to the L/P syitch back to original. Any ideas as to what he was trying to accomplish? It's hot here in Florida, and I want the system to operate as it should. This car has only 108,000 miles on it.

Thanks
