I had a similar problem with mine. They kept ripping thru right at the upper bolt. I found that at some point in the cars life someone crossthreaded the upper bolt hole and then just wrenched it down as hard as they could almost giving the feel that the upper J was tight on the strap. But in reality the only thing holding it was the bolt thru the straphole. I finally switched the bolt out for a shorter one until i could get a tapset. But my point is that the force of those J's pressing on the strap are the only thing keeping them from ripping right thru the bolt.
I hope that may help.
