Motor Mount Heck in 96 degree sunny weather 200 1986

So Nothing too hard when it started out, found a motor mount for the right side at all places Auto Zone for $6.50. Just drop the oil, pull the filter and replace the mount. No big right, well begin the use of the seven words you can not say on radio.

The bolts were not even close to lining up, so lets go loosen up the other side. Well jacking up the engine showed why all the vibration started on Saturday. The dang engine is sitting on the cross member and yes the rack. Back to Auto Zone, grab the other mount and lets just try to get one side started.

The engine was dropped back about a half inch and twisted to the right side. Ended up taking a bottle jack and gently pushing the top of the right side and gently prying the engine forward all while sitting on a Jack under the oil pan. Got the right started and then kept working on the right with a buddy for five quality hours in the 108 heat index. Good news is I lost most likely five pounds and the motor is now sitting on the mounts.

Lesson is Check your motor mounts. In hind sight the hard hit from the rubber tire strip most likely knocked the right side loose, and then on Saturday the left must have give up and broke. There is a dent in the oil pan where it hit the cross member. But no leaks except for the little pipe on the water pmmp seaping. So new pump seal kit tomorrow and hopefuly back to trucking down the Beltway.

Thanks for your advice on how to check the mounts. Covered them in silicone grease to at least slow the oil from getting to the new ones. Gotta go take a long shower and get the grease and salt off now.

Regards,

PT
