A/C Clutch GAP / shims -- Anyone know about this?

If it works good when the car's cold, but not when the car's warm, I'd try replacing the heater control valve before getting all crazy with the compressor clutch. Or in the name saving a buck, try temporarily removing the valve and plugging the heater hoses.
