Overheating Problems 120-130

Howdy all!

Here is the nutshell story. Wasn't paying attention, fanbelt broke, car overheated. Put new belt on, car runs fine.

But now I am having some problems keepint the temp steady. When I come to a stop, the temp raises, (more than normal) when I get the revs up, it gets back to normal. I have an electric fan, and I never had this problem before the broken fan belt incident.
I have taken out the thermostat to make sure that it was not sticking. And last night, the car was running WAY hotter than normal, and the guage would bounce up to real hot, then cool down for a while, then get really hot again. I know that the guage is not broken!
My thought is that the water pump is going out, and maybe that is why the belt broke in the first place.
Anyone have a similar problem? and other ideas on the proble?

Thanks
Kent
