How do you test AC compressor with 12 volt. 900 1993

My 1993 Volvo stopped work last year for no reason when the compressor would no longer engage, and I had a shop pressure test the system to see if there is freon in the system and all was OK. Where do I connect a lead from the positive 12+ side of the battery to what lead on the compressor???(with the car runing with the air on) to see if the compressor will engage?
