Mystery noise solved, it's really bad news.... 200 1993

Thanks to all who have helped in the past..... The car is making a drone sound which changes with speed. We thought it might be a wheel bearing, but we brought the car to a good shop and they told us the differential is bad. The car only has 174K so I really didn't think the diff would go out so early. They said it was the bearings as opposed to the gears, but that it would eventually sieze up and is not very safe to drive. The quote for parts and labor was around $1100.00. This is with a good used diff with only a 90 day warranty on the part. We are mulling over how to proceed..... It's been making this noise for the past month or so.... This might be RIP for our beloved car !
