Tourqe Converter S90-V90

Well--I had a good freind who's top mech for Ford stop in Friday-said my t convertor is getting ready to go. Took the pan off this afternnon and hints of metal shavings and brown atf. When the cars in park it's all quiet-put her in gear and there's a whirring noise-give it the gas and it takes off and shifts perfectly-but there's the whine I have mentioned in previous posts.
Should I look for a new tranny-or try to find a t-converter and have another go with this tranny? The filter was almost silver when I took it out and cleaned it up-nothing in the screen but the magnets were right filthy as well.
