Lower profile tires and 122's, a bad match? 120-130 1964

I got my first set of widened rims (6") back today for my wagon. The thought has crossed my mind to change the rear axle ratio to 4:10 or even 3:73, and get away from the super tall 195's that would be required with the stock 4:56 ratio. I'm assuming there would be some handling benefits to going with a lower tire profile.

If I went with 3:73 I thought I would put some decent 195/50 tires on the car to make up for the low ratio, and for the handling benefits, if any.
I am concerned about the ride quality of 50 series tires, and other issues, and I wonder if such a change is really appropriate for a daily driver.

I'm keeping the stock springs for now, and the car will be getting Bilstein HD shocks all around. I'm really thinking of handling upgrades to improve the car's margin of safety; I'm not interested in pushing it to it's limits.

Any thoughts?

Bill
