Does the Fuel Pump Relay supply power to the coil?? 200 1993

having a frustrating no-start in my 93 245.GRRRRR. I've tried 3 different power stages, 3 diffrent coils (1 from running car belonging to my buddy)...still no spark out of coil...EXCEPT that when the key is first turned a small yellow spark arcs out of the end of the coil wire,,,then nothing.
consulting the Bentley manual for wiring diagrams it seems that the Red/White wire from #1 contact at the coil runs back to the fuel pump relay.
Just ran out in the dark and replaced the Fuel Pump relay (2003 vintage) with a 98 vintage one...still no start...GRRRR again.

Any thoughts??
